Well, we both made it through our first week of work! The NICU here is a warehouse-style unit which means all the babies are in one big room together. I do not particularly like this kind of a setting, but I am getting used to it. Everyone here has been very nice and helpful in getting me acclimated to things. Some of the stuff they do here is really great, they are big on infection control. Other things that they do seem outdated and quite silly. I am sure in the next couple of weeks I will get the hang of things.
On Friday we went to a restaurant called Moose Tooth. It is a local brewery and pizza place. We tried several different kinds of their beer, all of them very good. I have decided that I like the dark beers, they taste kind of like coffee to me. The pizza was also great!
Today, Dan was in the yard with Bradley and there was a man walking his large dog on the sidewalk. At a second glance, Dan realized that it was not a large dog being walked, it was a reindeer! He ran inside to get me so I could see this crazy site too. Sure enough, a man, presumably Santa himself, was walking down the road with his reindeer on a leash! I will be keeping my eyes peeled to catch site of them again and hopefully we will get a picture!
Today is also a very special day for us. Bradley has been a part of our family for a whole year! I remember the day we picked him up from the animal shelter. We went to look at another puppy that was on the internet and Bradley just happened to be in the same run as the other puppy. Bradley had not been posted on the internet yet, it was his first day at the shelter, he had been with his foster family before that day and had just been neutered. The volunteer tried to get the other puppy out for us by distracting Bradley and the others with a treat. Bradley got the treat and managed to wiggle his way out of the cage and into our arms! We were hooked and so was he!
