Oregon Trail

We have made it through the Oregon coast! We had a blast seeing the sights. What better way to begin our trip than by starting where Lewis and Clark ended their journey? We stopped at the Clatsop National Park where we saw an informational video, some artifacts, and a replica of the fort they made while they stayed on the coast. Certainly not the most exciting thing, but historical nonetheless.
We spent the night in Tillamook, home of Tillamook cheese. Tillamook's cow population outnumbers it's people 2:1. It definitely smelled like it! We went to the factory for a tour and to sample some cheese, yummy!
From Tillamook, we went south to Lincoln City to enjoy a stroll on the beach. We searched the tide pools for creatures and watched the surfers. Moving along highway 101, we saw seals on the rocks as well as a handful of lighthouses.
We made the most exciting, (and stinky,) stop at the Sea Lion Cave. After taking an elevator down 200ft into a large sea cave, we were met with a curtain of funky sea lion smell and the loud belching sounds they constantly are making... to communicate? what? I am not sure. It was quite the experience.
Tonight we have stopped in Northern California and are planning to come face to face with the "Giants" of California in the morning!

ps Today we learned that in the state of Oregon, (and New Jersey, apparently,) it is illegal to pump your own gas. Strange, eh?

Seeing those photos of the Oregon coast makes me think you were probably lucky you didn't run into the Fratellis or One-Eyed-Willie!! Sloth would have had your back though.
