LA and the Grand Canyon

Before I begin talking about the fun stuff, let me just vent about the state of Texas. Firstly, we have been driving through this stupid state since 5pm yesterday, stopping around midnight for some sleep. Driving in Texas at night, you may only drive 65mph, whereas the day time speed limit is 80. And don't think that the highway patrol will let you get away, they are everywhere and waiting for you to slip up. Then, they have these boarder patrol check points where the man just waves you right through. We could have had mexican produce on our person, or even better, actual Mexicans. They will never know. They are also doing road work on I-10, which is just making this drive that much more unbearable. It took us over 2 hours to drive through the city of Houston because they closed I-10 for 15miles and let us know about it only 2 exits in advance. Ridiculousness! It has also been crazy windy today. We are just waiting for a big gust to come along and take us away. The only thing that has been bigger in Texas is my headache.

With that said, everything else about this trip so far has been great. After San Fran we went to LA to visit my aunt Diane and her husband, Pete. Dan and I had a blast with them. The first day there, we drove to the beaches, which were so pretty. We stopped for some lunch in Laguna Beach. Dan and I kept and eye out for Heidi and Spencer so we could punch her and shave off his nastache, but no luck. The next day we went into the city to see Beverly Hills, Sunset and the Chinese Theater with the hand prints. It was fun seeing the sights, but there are a lot of people in the city. Our favorite was the smaller beachy towns around LA.

After LA, we headed over to the Grand Canyon. What a sight! We spent the day taking pictures, and exploring the area. We stayed in a cabin at the edge of the rim. Like, literally 20 steps to the edge. It was so cool! It is hard to put into words the feeling of standing at the edge of it, but it was similar to standing next to a redwood tree. We took a path a little ways down into the canyon, but we didn't venture far since we aren't the greatest of outdoors men. We woke up the next morning, opened our window, and the canyon was there to greet us. How lucky we are!

Heading away from the canyon and towards I-10, we went through Sedona to see the red rocks. We weren't too sure what to expect, but they were a pleasant surprise. The mountains (or whatever it is that they are,) were amazing and the little town of Sedona was so cute, red to match the rocks.

And that brings us to where we are now, driving on an endless I-10. We have spotted a Church's Chicken, several Whataburgers, and countless Cracker Barrels, all evidence that we are back in the south. It feels good to be headed home!
